I'm Eddie, a 19 year old marine engineer cadet working for Carnival UK. I returned from my first 4 month trip away on the Aurora on the 1st of November, only to find my granddad had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. As I'm sure you'll imagine, that's quite a thing to come home to; since one of the last things we did as a family before I went away was celebrating his 80th birthday in a steakhouse in Seaton Carew back in July.
Granddad passed away on the 21st November, 4 weeks after his intital diagnosis, and which was also the day I was meant to restart college for a year to do some fabrication in the first 4 weeks then start an HNC after Christmas. Since then, we've picked ourselves up and adjusted to life without him. In his memory dad decided we should do the 3 Peaks Challenge, as granddad was always telling us to get up off our backsides and do something! So 4 days ago, we bagan our training.
